Split Hotels

The largest settlement on the Dalmatian Coast and the second biggest city in Croatia, Split is a superb holiday destination. There’s lots to do in this charming, historical city – which is packed with ancient artefacts, as well as more contemporary shops, eateries and nightlife spots.

At the start of the 4th century, a Roman Emperor built Diocletian’s Palace at the heart of what is now Spilt, and the rest of the city has blossomed outwards from this imposing central structure. A visit to the palace is a must – it’s virtually overflowing with original Roman artefacts, plus the majority of the building remains intact. Game of Thrones fans will be enraptured by the cellar, which was featured in the hit television show.

Split has a present as well as a past though, and cosy cafes and stylish restaurants abound, giving visitors the chance to sample Croatian specialities as well as savouring international favourites. Fish and seafood are understandably popular, and eateries offer dishes inspired by all areas of the Mediterranean.

After dark, Split really knows how to party. Whatever kind of nightlife appeals, the city can almost certainly supply it. From tiny, intimate cellar bars that offer the chance to taste fine wines, to sophisticated seaside cocktail bars and huge nightclubs, there are plenty of places to go once the sun has set.

If you love a bit of beach life on holiday, then Split’s best beach, Bačvice, is located close to the city centre and has Blue Flag status thanks to its clean, shallow water that makes for great fun for kids to splash about in. Alternatively, a short bus trip will drop you close to Firule beach, a sandy retreat that’s also very popular with families for playtime and picnics.

If you fancy combining beach life with nightlife, then pebbly Ovcice beach is a great place to see the sunset. Kavana Ovcice is based here too - a beach club featuring live music each evening.

Split hotels are plentiful and varied. Beach hotels in Split are situated close to the magnificent Dalmatian Coast, and offer the ideal accommodation for those who love the seaside.
