Protaras Hotels

The resort of Protaras on the south east coast of Cyprus has grown around Fig Tree Bay, a golden sandy beach that’s perfect for sunbathing, swimming and watersports. There’s even a tiny islet just off shore that you can swim out to. This purpose-built resort is ideal for families, as there’s plenty to keep the kids busy, while couples love the range of restaurants, bars and activities on offer. For the young and lively holiday crowd, Ayia Napa is within easy reach, making this a great destination for those families with teens, as well as younger children.

Fig Tree Bay is the main beach in Protaras, but the resort also boasts five more top quality beaches. Green Bay is a quieter and more sheltered option than Fig Tree Bay, while those in search of seclusion will love Sirena Bay, a compact little cove with only one cafe bar. Louma Beach is another popular spot thanks to its soft, golden sands.

When it comes to accommodation in the area, there’s something to suit everyone, whether that’s 5-star hotels in Protaras, or some of the cheap hotels Protaras has to offer. Many visitors find all-inclusive hotels in Protaras a good bet, as once you’d paid for your holiday there’s very little need to worry about spending money.

Just moments from the sandy beaches is the main street, which is lined with a great range of eateries and bars. For those in search of livelier nightlife, Ayia Napa can be reached by car in just 10 minutes. This Cypriot resort has a well-deserved reputation as party central, where teens and twenty-somethings in particular love to dance until dawn. By day, you may even get to catch sight of the legendary sea monster of Ayia Napa.

Beyond the compact resort of Protaras, there are plenty of interesting day trips to be had. Head to Cape Greco if you’d like to indulge in a spot of snorkelling, as the underwater life here is colourful and varied. Alternatively, the ghost town of Varosha is around 40 minutes’ drive away, and offers the chance to see a town just as it was left behind when locals deserted it in the 1970s after the Turks invaded.
