Fuerteventura is the perfect place for a family holiday

Blessed with a warm dry climate, some of the best beaches throughout the Mediterranean and a choice of hotels, it is little wonder why the fascinating island of Fuerteventura attracts holiday makers all year round. Easily reached in just four hours flight time from the UK, holidays to Fuerteventura often exceed most peoples expectations and with a climate that could quite easily rival any Caribbean destination – you won’t have to look far to see why!

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands and sits just 100km from the coast of Africa. Typical characteristics common of all the Canaries remain evident, including a glorious annual climate with temperatures averaging approximately 20 degrees throughout the year. Fuerteventura also has a very distinct landscape, where rock formations and a volcanic backdrop are met with miles of soft silky sands, palm trees and a warm sea breeze.

As a holiday destination, it is the endless expanse of blissful coastline, modern-day Mediterranean-style resorts and the laid back pace that attracts sun seekers year after year. The coastline of Fuerteventura stretches over 340 km and is a popular place for families, couples and friends to bask beneath the subtropical sunshine.

Fuerteventura resorts tend to be more relaxed than that of Tenerife or Lanzarote, however there is still a generous mix of places to stay, making it an attractive holiday destination for all. The busiest resort is Corralejo, on the north coast. A picturesque seafaring town; Corralejo combines a bustling harbour lined with shops, street markets and restaurants with some of the islands best beaches. Corralejo is also where you will find the majority of island nightlife, with a low-key selection of British bars and late night spots for those who favour nocturnal events.

Caleta de Fuste on the east coast of the island is Fuerteventura’s favourite, family friendly resort. Set around a horse-shoe shaped bay, you will find a wealth of All Inclusive hotels and facilities for everyone to enjoy.

Holidays to Gran Canaria are perfect for both lively recreation and pure relaxation.

Gran Canaria is famous for its inspiring beauty and laid back atmosphere. Home to budget hotels,  incredible coastlines, dramatic mountains and exotic flora and fauna, it is a truly fascinating island. Whatever your taste or age, there is a resort to suit, from the breathtaking views of Puerto Rico, the vibrant atmosphere of Playa Del Ingles or the Sahara like sand-dunes of Maspalomas.

Situated between three continents, Africa, Europe and America, Gran Canaria is often referred to as a mini continent in itself, benefiting from the Gulf flow around the island and vast variations in weather. As the most developed of all the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria makes for an ideal base for a fun-filled family holiday. Whether it is to enjoy the year round tropical climates, the 200 kilometres of blissful coastline or the action and excitement of the Mediterranean Ocean, Gran Canaria caters perfectly.

If you are looking for a resort style holiday then the Southern side of the island is home to an abundance of bustling resorts, with soft golden sands and shallow waters attracting a host of sun worshippers and sports enthusiasts alike. Playa Del Ingles is the livelier, typically British resort attracting 18-30 tourists and family holidays, while Maspalomas with its magnificent Sahara like sand dunes provides a more relaxed, upmarket base. Both share the same magnificent 8km stretch of sandy beach, and offer a host of high-class and quality hotels that sit upon soft golden sands.

As the windiest of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is a haven for water-sports and therefore the best place to enjoy a spot of sailing, windsurfing or parasailing. There are also a number of water-parks dotted across the island, which together make for a great family day out.

Tenerife is the largest and liveliest of the Canary Islands

Baking in year round warmth off the coast of Africa, Tenerife offers a choice of hotels and all types of holiday adventure; whether you’re the sun worshipper seeking pacific paradise or sports enthusiast in search of ocean adventure. Enjoy the golden beaches and lively nightlife of Playa de Las Americas, the traditional town of Los Cristianos or the island charm of San Miguel.

Guaranteed to be a holiday to remember, Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and is home to a wealth of natural and contemporary attractions. As one of the Mediterranean’s most popular year-round destinations, it is often the island of choice for jet-setters in the winter months, when many attempt to leave the bad weather behind and head for sunnier shores. Boasting an average annual temperature of 20 degrees, holidays to Tenerife guarantee bright sunshine almost every day.

Like many Mediterranean destinations, Tenerife offers a choice of pleasures for the discerning traveller. Its landscape varies dramatically in both scenery and atmosphere, with a very arid, volcanic, lunar-like landscape in the South and miles of rugged coastline and subtropical vegetation in the North. Resorts on the island are also distinctly different, ranging from lively and vibrant to quaint and quiet.

Most people who holiday in Tenerife tend to choose the more commercial Southern side of the island, home to miles of man-made sandy beaches, a lively nightlife and all manner of modern day facilities. For young groups seeking a commercial base then Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos is an obvious choice. Here karaoke bars, all night cafes and 18-30’s hotels remain open throughout the year and offer a vibrant base for a fun-filled beach break.

A selection of slightly more undisturbed resorts can be found further North. Puerto de la Cruz is the oldest resort in Tenerife and renowned for having the best weather on the whole of the island. Here the typically British restaurants are replaced with traditional Spanish tapas bars and guests are invited to relax and enjoy true Mediterranean hospitality.
